Shivamogga, Sep 24, 2024 : The Balegaru Miraculous Cross Feast was celebrated on September 22nd at 4 p.m. at Balegaru, Monti Mary Church, Talaguppa, Diocese of Shimoga.

Rev. Fr. Franklin D'Souza, Diocesan Youth Director of the Diocese of Shimoga, was the main celebrant of the festal Holy Eucharist. Six priests and a deacon concelebrated. Fr. Franklin D'Souza preached his sermon based on 1 Corinthians 1:18: "For the message about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved, it is the power of God." He then expounded on John 3:16: "For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life." God's redemption is for everyone, and it was accomplished through the Cross. Jesus defeated sin and death and granted us salvation. By surrendering our will to him, we can attain the eternal life he promised us.

Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Denis Mathias welcomed and thanked Fr. Franklin D'Souza. He also expressed gratitude to the large number of faithful who had gathered and to all those who had worked to make the feast a success.

The Balegaru Miraculous Cross has a remarkable history, and people flock from many places to offer prayers. It is situated at Balegaru, beside the highway. Every year, this feast is celebrated with great love and respect for the Cross erected there. Initially, it belonged to St. Joseph's Church Sagara, Shivamogga, but when the parish was bifurcated, the territory of Balegaru came under Talaguppa Parish.
