Shivamogga, July 23, 2024 : Diocese of Shimoga received a shocking news today noon. Rev. Fr Anthony Peter, Parish Priest of Little Flower of Theresa Church, Shikaripura breathed his last in a fatal accident near Savalanga. He was 51 years old.

Rev. Fr Anthony was travelling from Shivamogga to Shikaripura after finishing his work at Shivamogga. Bro. Stephen, who was doing his regency, was travelling with him. He is seriously injured and admitted in Nanjappa Hospital, Shivamogga.

Rev. Fr Anthony Peter was born on January 7th 1973 in Bhadravathi, Karnataka, and was ordained a priest in 2004. He served at Our Lady of Health, Minor Basilica from 2016 to 2023. He worked tirelessly alongside Jesuit Bishop Francis Serrao of Shimoga to elevate the Harihar Shrine to a minor basilica in 2019.

His spiritual guidance and community service earned him deep respect during his time at the Harihara Basilica. His passing leaves a void in the Shimoga diocese, where he was beloved for his selfless contributions.

Funeral Details :

The mortal remains of Fr Anthony Peter will be brought to Sacred Heart Cathedral, Shimoga on Friday, July 26 at 8 am for public homage , followed by mass at 10 am.
