Mangaluru, March 21, 2018 : As St Ann’s College celebrates its Platinum Jubilee Year, it also celebrated a number of milestones during the year 2017-2018. Celebration of fifty golden years of its Alumnae Association marked a historic occasion.

A presentation by secretary of the Alumnae Association, Rose Pinto on the glimpses of Mother Josephine Memorial Lecture for the past 22 years brought back nostalgic memories and flashbacks. It presented an overview of Superior General of Apostolic Carmel, Mother M Josephine AC who pioneered the college on July 1, 1943. Keeping in mind the purpose behind the establishment of St Ann’s College of Education in 1943, namely, to provide professional and job oriented educational training to women, with Mother Josephine as the Superior General, the college decided to organise an annual Mother Josephine lecture by an eminent scholar/educationalist pertaining to issues of education, status of women and several others.

This was planned on the occasion of golden Jubilee celebration in 1993. To venerate this service of Mother M Josephine AC and to foster and perpetuate comradeship and loyalty to their alma mater, the alumnae of St Ann’s College of Education (autonomous), along with the management and staff have been conducting Mother Josephine Memorial lecture right from the year 1994.

Chief guest Prof B A Viveka Rai, former vice chancellor, Kannada University, Hampi and Karnataka State Open University, Mysuru delivered a lecture on the topic 'New spaces for learning and living'. The talk signified the importance of space creation for women and expansion of their knowledge in the educational field. One needs to take on life's challenges very positively. Real examples of great women and their achievements were mentioned by the speaker. He spoke on the dimensions between well being and accomplishment of goals between men and women.

In his conclusion, the speaker congratulated St Ann’s College of Education for shaping women teachers for a better future.

Sr Clare, AC, president of the Alumnae Association welcomed and introduced the chief guest. A total of hundred and fifty alumnae were present. Sr Teena Vas, alumnus proposed the vote of thanks. Anna Crasta, graduate assistant, Mangaluru compered the programme. Sr Edna Furtado, joint secretary, St Ann’s Institutions, Sr Ida Barboza AC, secretary of Apostolic Carmel Educational Society, Sr Rose Agnes AC, assistant provincial superior, Provincial House, St Ann’s Convent and Sr Nirmala Francis AC, provincial counselor, Provincial House, St Ann’s Convent were present.
