Puttur, 23 Feb 2025 : In celebration of Mother Language Day, St Philomena Autonomous College, Puttur, organized an event under the theme “Comprehensive Development of Talent and Competence Through the Mother Language.” The program emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting one’s native language as an integral part of personal and cultural identity.

Presiding over the event, Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Principal of the College, stressed the need to love and respect one’s language not out of personal gain but as a responsibility. “We should not question what our language has given us, but rather reflect on what we have given to our language,” he remarked, highlighting the duty of individuals to contribute to the enrichment of their linguistic heritage.

Delivering the guest lecture, Dr. Maitri Bhat, Asst. Professor in the Kannada Department, emphasized that language and life are not separate entities but rather interconnected aspects of human expression. She stated, “Language is an external manifestation of internal thought. Today, technology plays a crucial role in multilingual learning. Whether a language chooses us or we choose a language, it truly becomes ours only when it integrates into our daily lives.”

The event began with a welcome address by Dr Vijayakumar Moleyar, Vice Principal, and was anchored by Prashanth Rai, Director of Yaksha Kala Kendra, who also delivered the vote of thanks. The Cultural Association students led the prayer and a group singing performance, enhancing the event’s significance. On this occasion, a group singing competition on Kannada language and culture was conducted for students.
