Mangaluru, Feb 6, 2025 : The Postgraduate Department of Chemistry at St. Agnes (Autonomous) College, Centre for Postgraduate Studies and Research, organized a seminar titled "Discover Your Element: Exploring Career Paths for Chemistry Graduates" at PG auditorium on February 4. The event aimed to provide valuable insights into career opportunities available to chemistry graduates and explore avenues in academia, industry, and the job market.

The seminar commenced with an introduction to the resource person, Dr. Vijesh A.M., Assistant Professor in Chemistry and Research Guide at Payyanur College. Dr. Vijesh's presentation emphasized the importance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in chemistry and highlighted the inspiring words of Dr. Morten Peter Meldal: "If you start learning chemistry in childhood, you can do wonders."

Dr. Vijesh's talk focused on exploring career avenues available to chemistry graduates in academia and industry, covering three key aspects: career selection, higher studies in chemistry, and job opportunities. He emphasized the vast career potential of a strong chemistry foundation, including opportunities in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, forensic science, and nanotechnology. The speaker highlighted the increasing demand for chemistry graduates in the global job market, sharing experiences of successful professionals in industry, academia, and research. He encouraged students to pursue higher studies, certificate courses, and internships to gain practical experience and improve their skill sets.

Dr. Vijesh explored job opportunities in both public and private sectors within the field of chemistry, including chemical industries, analytical labs, pharmaceuticals, petrochemicals, polymer industries, food industries, power plants, cosmetics, defense manufacturing, and green hydrogen companies in India. He emphasized the importance of internships for hands-on experience and practical exposure. The seminar also covered various national and international institutions where students could pursue higher education in chemistry. Dr. Vijesh concluded the session by emphasizing the importance of proper planning in achieving career goals, encouraging students to dedicate themselves to their chosen field.

The seminar provided students with a deeper understanding of potential career paths and knowledge in the field of chemistry. The event was attended by students from both undergraduate and postgraduate departments of various colleges. The Head of the Department, Dr. Sapna Kumari M, along with Assistant Professors Dr. Amruta K, Sr Gloria D'Souza A.C., and Dr. Geetha M Pinto, were present during the program. The PG Department of Chemistry student, Ms. Navyashree, welcomed the dignitaries, Ms. Ananya offered a prayer, and Ms. Shresta delivered the vote of thanks.
