Moodbidri, Feb 2, 2025 : On January 30 Carmel School solemnly observed Martyrs’ Day paying homage to the courageous souls who laid down their lives for the nation. Also known as Peace Day the occasion marks the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and serves as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made to uphold India's freedom and unity.

The commemoration began with a prayer service seeking divine strength to follow in the footsteps of our valiant martyrs. This was followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries symbolizing the eternal flame of patriotism and peace in honor of Mahatma Gandhi.

A graceful welcome dance set the stage for the event beautifully embodying harmony and unity. Following this Anushka extended a heartfelt welcome to all esteemed dignitaries, teachers and students. Sr. Maria Gracilda A.C. our respected Principal, warmly welcomed the Chief Guest Mr. Mervin Coreha by presenting  a potted plant.

To deepen the understanding of the day’s significance Chandan and Neha delivered an insightful speech on the importance of Martyrs’ Day reminding everyone of the selfless sacrifices made by our freedom fighters. Their words were followed by a soul-stirring dance performance that embodied the values of patriotism, sacrifice and unity. The performance deeply moved the audience, instilling a renewed sense of respect for the nation’s heroes.

The highlight of the event was the address by the Chief Guest Mr. Merwin Correya, an esteemed officer who has served across various states in India with dedication and valor. Currently serving as the Administrative Support and Discipline Officer at Alva’s Education Foundation his inspiring words encouraged students to uphold the virtues of courage, integrity, truth and national service.

Following this our Principal Sr. Maria Gracilda A.C. shared her reflections on the importance of peace urging students to become responsible citizens and uphold the ideals of justice, unity and harmony. She eloquently spoke about the essence of peace emphasizing its significance in shaping a better world.

As the event drew to a close Angel D’Souza delivered the vote of thanks, expressing heartfelt gratitude to all. Sr. Elena A.C. the Administrator, presented a memento to the Chief Guest as a token of appreciation.

The program was seamlessly emceed by Reona Pearl and Sudhanshu who carried the event with grace, confidence and eloquence.

The commemoration of Martyrs’ Day was not just a remembrance of past sacrifices but also a call to action for the present and future to uphold the ideals of peace, unity and patriotism.
