Puttur , 23 Aug 2024 : Department of Physics (UG and PG) in association with the National Service Scheme (NSS), observed National Space Day with inspiring insights on Space Exploration today (Friday), at the PG Seminar Hall of the college. The event marked the one-year anniversary of ISRO’s successful Chandrayaan-3 mission landing.

The program was presided over by Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Principal of the College, and the chief guest was Dr A P Radhakrishna, Adjunct Professor in the PG Department of Physics at the Centre for PG Studies and Research, St Philomena College, Puttur.

Dr A P Radhakrishna, delivered an inspiring speech reflecting on the contributions of Indian scientists to the space program. He emphasized the importance of encouraging young minds to take an active interest in space exploration, viewing it as a pathway to national progress.

Dr Vijaykumar Moleyar, vice principal of the college highlighted the significance of celebrating National Space Day, while Rev Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, in his presidential address, spoke about the power of passion and commitment in achieving success. He underlined the crucial role that space studies play in sustaining life on Earth and called on students to cultivate a scientific mindset, urging them to create innovative solutions to modern challenges.

In celebration of National Space Day, a quiz and poster-making competitions were organized for B.Sc. students, with winners receiving their awards during the formal program. Mr Vipin Naik N S, Coordinator of the PG Department of Physics was present on the dais. IQAC coordinator Dr Malini K, and NSS officer Mrs Pushpa N were present at the program along with the students of B.Sc. program.

Pallavi and her team from III BSc rendered prayer, Dr K Chandrashekar, HoD of Physics welcomed with introductory remarks and Mr Sujith S, Assistant Professor in the PG Department of Physics proposed a vote of thanks. Mrs Poojashree V Rai, Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics, compered.
