Puttur , 16 Aug 2024 : St Philomena College, Puttur, commenced its first-year graduation classes with a ceremonious lamp-lighting event, marking the official beginning of the academic journey for the new batch of students. The program, held as part of the second day of the induction series, was presided over by the college correspondent, Very Rev. Fr Lawrence Mascarenhas, who delivered an inspiring address emphasizing the importance of lifelong learning and core values.

Rev. Fr Mascarenhas highlighted the necessity of continuous education in today's rapidly evolving world, stressing that the pursuit of knowledge extends far beyond the confines of classroom walls. "Lifelong learning is essential for personal and professional growth. Students should not only focus on academic excellence but also embrace values such as integrity, respect, perseverance, and compassion, the cornerstones of a meaningful life," he remarked. He also congratulated the students on choosing St Philomena College for their graduation.

In his address, the Principal of the college, Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, turned the spotlight on global environmental challenges. He urged the students to adopt environmentally friendly lifestyles, stressing the urgency of combating climate change and pollution. "Recent extreme weather events have shown us the consequences of nature's dominance. It is our responsibility, as educated individuals, to prioritize positive thinking, environmental stewardship, and self-confidence," he stated.

The event was further enriched by various informative sessions aimed at familiarizing students with essential resources and opportunities. Dr Chandrashekhar, Head of the Department of Physics, spoke on educational information and evaluation, while Abdul Rahman G, Selection grade librarian of the college introduced the students to the technical resources library. Dhanya P.T., Assistant Professor in the Department of Commerce, provided valuable insights into scholarships available from both government and non-government organizations.

The Dean of Science Faculty and IQAC Coordinator, Dr Malini K., welcomed the gathering with introductory remarks. The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr Vinayachandra, Dean of the Computer Science Department. The event was compered by Spearl Fiona Pereira, Assistant Professor in the Department of Commerce, and was graced by the presence of Vice Principal Dr Vijaya Kumar Moleyar.
