Puttur , 16 Aug 2024 : Anti-Ragging Cell observed Anti-Ragging Day 2024 on Wednesday in the SJM Hall of the college. The occasion emphasized the critical need to raise awareness about the pervasive issue of ragging and its profound impact on individuals, families, and communities.
Dr Norbert Mascarenhas, the Director of the Anti-Ragging Cell, led the program by addressing the assembled students and staff. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of understanding the far-reaching consequences of ragging, which can inflict long-term psychological and emotional harm on victims. He urged the audience to adopt a zero-tolerance stance towards ragging, emphasizing that it is a societal issue that requires collective vigilance.
Dr Mascarenhas also provided an overview of the various anti-ragging committees that operate at national, state, and institutional levels. He stressed the importance of these bodies in curbing the menace of ragging and ensuring that students are safeguarded from such practices. He also highlighted the dual approach of punishment and rehabilitation.
The event concluded with a solemn pledge by both staff and students to stand united against ragging in all its forms, reaffirming their commitment to creating a safe and inclusive campus environment.
