Mangaluru, July 27 : Renowned Teacher and Entrepreneur from Kelarai, Mangaluru Benjamin D Souza passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2024, after a brief illness. He was 75. Benjamin did his schooling at St Joachim School at Kelarai and did his studies from high school to degree from St Aloysius College Mangalore. He obtained Master's degree in political Science from Venkateswara University, Thirupathi and B Ed from Government college Mangalore. He started his teaching career from Rosario Institutions Mangalore and taught in various schools of Puttur, Milagres of Udupi.
He began his entrepreneurial journey, served as the secretary in Bus Owners Association and as the chairman in Lions Club Dakshina Kannada district. He was a member of Land Tribunal and Member of Bajpe Mandal Panchayath.
He served for three terms as member in diocesan pastoral council and served as vice president in parish council as well. He was extremely good at singing and sports and always encouraged the youth to take part in cultural and sports events. He was a toastmaster and emceed several events in and around Mangalore. He was the first ever life member of Catholic Sabha of Mangalore Pradesh.
He left behind Wife Violet Dsouza (Retd Associate Professor Govinda Das College, Surthakal), Daughter Nirmala Dsouza (Senior Manager, HDFC Bank), 2 Sons Benjohn Dsouza Chief Engineer Currently working in Mexico, Benoy Dsouza and Son-in Law Roshan Castelino, former Manager of State Bank of India, Shivbagh, Grandchild Rachel Pia.
