Mangaluru, Jan 11 : St Agnes College (Autonomous) welcomed members of Saint Claret College, Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh, who were here as a part of the MOU signed between the two colleges. The Claret College team was here for a cultural exchange programme from 6 to 11 January 2024. On 8 January 2024, through the inaugural programme, the students and staff of Claret College were given a formal welcome.

The programme was inaugurated by lighting of the lamp by Sr Dr M Venissa A.C., the Principal of St Agnes College, Rev. Dr. Alwyn Mendoz, the Principal, of Saint Claret College, Ziro Arunachal Pradesh and other dignitaries. The students of St Agnes College familiarized the guests with our culture through the performance of Chende, classical dance and other cultural dance forms. Sr. Clara A C, the Vice Principal, Dr Ordetta Mendonza, Faculty & Co-ordinator, Academic Planning and Development, Saint Claret College Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh, Mrs Shubharekha, the Dean Administrator, Dr R Nagesh, Dean of Arts were the other dignitaries present for the Programme.

The students from Saint Claret College, Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh, took centre stage to present their unique culture, traditions, sports, and provided insights into their distinctive way of life and diverse culture. They presented sessions on Apatoni, Nyishi and some of the other tribes of Arunachal Pradesh; presented videos and exhibition on biodiversity and endangered languages of Arunachal Pradesh. A well planned cultural show was put up in the evening for the students of the college and public.

"The first experience of coming to St. Agnes College made me feel wonder about the diversity and culture. The dance performances by the students captivated us, and we learned about the rich tradition, culture and practices of Tulu Nadu” said Chakpu Emi, a student from Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh.

Other students from Arunachal Pradesh expressed that it was a unique experience for them in terms of dressing style, cuisine, language and dance forms. They appreciated the hospitality received during their 5 days stay in Mangalore. They also opined that though there is a lot of diversity in terms of the culture followed by the two groups, there are also similarities that bring us all together as people of one nation. A total of 30 students and 5 faculty members from Arunachal Pradesh were a part of this cultural exchange programme.
