Mangaluru, Aug 30 : No Sport is a play unless a player wins with dedication and practice.

National Sports Day in India has a deep meaning that stretches far beyond the domain of athletics. It pays respect to the country's athletes, both past and present, who have demonstrated unrivalled dedication, resilience, and brilliance on both national and international platforms. The day honours Major Dhyan Chand , a prominent personality in the field of sports and his legacy continues to inspire generations.

St Agnes School CBSE paid tribute to the sports legends with a solemn programme on Tuesday 29th August 2023 at Block II Hall.

Mr Pradeep Dsouza who was the Deputy Director for Dept of Sports and Youth Empowerment D.K Mangalore was the Chief Guest for this ceremonious day. He has been working in various Government Departments for 25 years. Currently he is working as the Secretary of Coastal Dept Authority Mangalore. He is a versatile player in sports such as Shuttle Badminton, Volleyball, Football and has been selected as a Referee for the National Volleyball Tournament. The other dignitaries were the parents of achievers in the field of sports at the International, National, State and District levels.

The programme was given a start by a divine prayer song led by the school choir followed by a graceful welcome dance. A tableau on sports day was presented by the students. The significance of the day was highlighted giving the true meaning of this day’s celebration.

On the occasion of Bicentennial birth anniversary of Venerable Mother Veronica, the foundress of the Apostolic Carmel Congregation, St Agnes School CBSE showed appreciation and acknowledgement towards the parent achievers in the field of sports. They serve as an inspiration to us all. They have walked extra miles to prove their mettle with hard work and ‘never give up’ attitude. Mr Vincent Carlo in International, National Level winner in Weight lifting and other events, Mr Jayappa Lamani in International, National Level winner in Weight lifting and other events, Mr Chetan Shetty in National Level Tennis, Mr Chandrakanth in District level Shuttle Badminton and Mr Usman A in Dist. Level Swimming.

The Chief Guest encouraged the students to play more games and respect sports as equalling academics. He urged the students to balance the time for any games of their interest. The parents too shared their experience of joining sports events and the necessity of keeping mind and body active.

Volleyball and Throw ball matches were conducted to commemorate this day for the students of grade VIII to X and winners were honoured with medals and certificates. The students who participated in Karate and Shuttle Badminton tournaments were honoured.

Sr Maria Sarika AC the Principal, Sr. Edna Furtado AC the administrator, Sr Lenita Lobo AC the Vice Principal, Sr Leticia the St Agnes Preparatory Co Ordinator, Sr Sweedal Fernandes AC the staff and the students witnessed the programme. Ms. Salvia announced the winners list of the matches conducted. The programme was coordinated by the PE Trainers.

Sweedal Rebello and Jenicia Saldanha compered the programme. Ms. Supreetha welcomed the gathering and Sonali proposed the vote of thanks expressing gratitude for each one’s presence and participation. The programme was brought to a closure with the National anthem.
